Dementia affects a person’s memory, focus, language processing, and emotional regulation (and other functions). Consequently, a person living with memory loss or dementia may withdraw from activities that require social interaction since the symptoms may be embarrassing or even scary to experience publicly. Increased isolation also increases a person’s likelihood to experience depression and anxiety, further reducing their quality of life and in some cases, expediting the progression of the disease.
